La Gomera, the Canary Islands

La Gomera is the second smallest of all the Canary Islands, measuring approximately 370km square in size, with a population of around 22,000 people.

Compared to the other islands available for holiday makers to choose from, La Gomera is a more undeveloped and unspoilt choice and is only 30 minutes away from Tenerife.

About La Gomera

The Landscape

As you might expect from one of these undeveloped islands, La Gomera is the ideal destination for those that enjoy hiking and walking. With it’s volcanic nature, the island changes between lush forests in and around it’s National Park to dryer, more desert-like vegetation on the sides of the island.

The island is a mecca for those interested in ecology and wildlife, and with its UNESCO World Heritage status it really is a paradise for those adventurous travellers who enjoy exploring the flora and fauna as much as laying in the sun on the beach.

Where is La Gomera?

La Gomera’s Climate

Compared to some of the other islands, the climate of La Gomera is a little more placid – there are big differences depending on your exact location on the island, but generally speaking the temperatures average 22 degrees during the winter and 27 degrees during summer, making it a great winter holiday destination (as well as a great summer one too!)

Where to Stay in La Gomera

Most visitors to La Gomera make their way to Valle Gran Rey, a more built-up part of the island with beautiful terraces and nice places to eat and drink. For those wanting to get away from their hectic modern life, a trip to La Gomera is perfect – providing the getaway they seek whilst also having modern facilities and attractions to visit.

The villages located in the mountains also provide nice, quiet accommodation for those looking to really get away from it all, so if a rural break is your thing then you’d love a trip to the mountains here – although you’d need to remember it’ll be slightly more chilly the higher you head. That being said, you’ll also find more variety provided by the hotels in San Sebastian.
